About AIRLIFT One

Based in the heart of Startup Nation, at the intersection of aerodynamics, autonomy, and electric propulsion - we are changing personal aviation.
AIRLIFT One enables you to travel 5 times faster than a car by introducing the world’s most efficient all-electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft: an air taxi for 2-5 people. You won’t have to own one, you will simply pay per ride and call it with a push of a button.

It’s our mission to make air taxis available to everyone and as affordable as riding a car.

- Take-off and Land Anywhere -
Quiet electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) is the technology that will change travel forever.
It enables you to access city centres with an aircraft. Leaving the city after a stressful day will soon be transformed into a thrilling ride. By travelling through the air you’ll be able to avoid time-consuming traffic jams, while enjoying a magnificent view.

About the Role

AIRLIFT One is seeking a passionate individual to join our mechatronics & avionics engineering team. Individual would be responsible for designing flight critical components and mechanisms.

This role will often involve design work starting at the conceptual level, mature into full 3D modeling, check with FEA analysis and hand calculations, and continue into manufacturing.

Hands on experience and a “get it done" attitude are very important for this position. Given the fast nature of AIRLIFT One, this position is rewarding as the engineer will promptly see their ideas grow from concept to creation.

Tasks may include:

  • Design of complicated mechanisms, linkages, actuators, etc.
  • Initial layout & sizing
  • Detail design & fabrication instruction writing
  • Direct communication with vendors and technicians in manufacturing
  • Work with the avionics team on the architecture of the avionics system
  • Take ownership of your system(s) and manage its whole implementation cycle
  • Develop, challenge and continuously improve system’s and item’s technical concepts
  • Ensure, that your system fulfils functional and safety requirements
  • Define requirements for subsystems and components
  • Work together with other departments and external suppliers to find the simplest and most elegant solutions
  • You will take responsibility for the development of subsystems and components and ensure their compliance to safety standards. The actual systems you will take care of, can range from pilot interfaces and display systems over auxiliary systems to telemetry, RC, ground control and accompanying systems.

Qualification:

  • B.S. / M.S. in mechanical engineering or a relevant discipline
  • 4+ years of working experience in relevant industry
  • Proven expertise in Solid Works models
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Strong analytical background
  • Experience with hands-on design and testing
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting and analysis
  • Strong volumetric awareness
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Design
  • Experience with hardware and software development process according to DO 178B/C and DO 254 and familiarity with ARP4754 highly appreciated, finite element tools (Abaqus)
