    We are looking for an outstanding Leader who will set up our Autonomous Flight Department to join our innovative team and thus shape the future of aerial e-mobility.
    You will have the unique opportunity to work on our Autonomy System for the AIRLIFT One, essentially teaching our planes how to fly on their own.
    Shape things from scratch, from concept definition and evaluation to hardware selection, integration. Coordination with the authorities regarding the legal and operative framework is a vital part of this role.
    You will design and develop state-of-the-art Deep-Learning-based computer vision, perception and decision-making algorithms that enable an autonomous aircraft to analyze, understand, and interact with its environment. Implement the above algorithms on high-performance on-board computer platforms within a scalable autonomy software architecture. Support the validation of the above algorithms using real-world and synthetic data from autonomous aircraft.

    Tasks may include:

      Develop and evaluate the autonomy concept and manage the complete development life cycle from requirements definition to Qualification and Certification. Developing systems for probabilistic sensor fusion and data association using cameras, LIDAR, RADAR, IMU, GPS, …, etc. Writing multi-threaded and GPU applications, estimation & Localization applications and probabilistic factor graphs; applying Computer Vision techniques - Classical and Deep Learning. Review and selection of suitable sensors and integration into the autonomy sensor suite Setup and rollout of processes and tools for the department Integration of autonomy components into the avionics and flight control systems Over time build, train, develop a local time Coordinate with potential partners and authorities Actively help shape processes of the respective department Work on any ad hoc projects or tasks

    Qualification:

      Expertise related to Deep Learning for computer vision, perception and decision-making M.Sc./PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or similar degree Extensive experience with autonomous systems, preferably aerial robotics Experience with environmental perception and self-localization algorithms Sound knowledge of current AI concepts and their capabilities Knowledge of sensor fusion techniques and demonstrable experience of their application Clear communicator and team player High level of self-reliance and an autonomous target-oriented work style is a must Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills required Fluent English language skills are essential

    This role will often involve design work starting at the conceptual level, mature into full 3D modeling, check with FEA analysis and hand calculations, and continue into manufacturing.
    Hands on experience and a “get it done" attitude are very important for this position. Given the fast nature of AIRLIFT One, this position is rewarding as the engineer will promptly see their ideas grow from concept to creation.

    Tasks may include:

      Design of complicated mechanisms, linkages, actuators, etc. Initial layout & sizing Detail design & fabrication instruction writing Direct communication with vendors and technicians in manufacturing Work with the avionics team on the architecture of the avionics system Take ownership of your system(s) and manage its whole implementation cycle Develop, challenge and continuously improve system’s and item’s technical concepts Ensure, that your system fulfils functional and safety requirements Define requirements for subsystems and components Work together with other departments and external suppliers to find the simplest and most elegant solutions You will take responsibility for the development of subsystems and components and ensure their compliance to safety standards.     The RT Software Engineer (LiDAR) will be responsible for architecting algorithms, implementing, and maintaining the core drivers that interface with the aircraft LiDAR sensor firmware, to parse and optimize the bi-directional data streams between LiDAR sensor and computer systems. You also will work closely with key stakeholders from teams across AIRLIFT One, including firmware development, machine learning, visualization and tooling, and data infrastructure. As a RT software engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining software of the highest quality and performance.

    Responsibilities

      Develop algorithms for LiDAR processing by an embedded flight computer, feature extraction, scan matching and LiDAR odometry.     Qualification:

    In this position you will work with the Avionics Systems Team and directly contribute to the electronic systems architecture of the AIRLIFT One aircraft.
    You will be the primary designer of the sensor systems, define redundancy and data fusion mechanisms, select components, work with suppliers and take end-to-end responsibility from requirement capture to validation testing and system integration.

    Tasks may include:

      Develop the core Sensor System for our Flight Control System. Take end to end responsibility for the components in your system from definition to verification. Cooperate with Avionics, Flight Control and Software teams to clarify requirements and ensure consistency across system boundaries. Define requirements for sensor hardware and software. Define sensor data processing pipelines and data fusion mechanisms. Manage suppliers to develop and deliver hardware and software components. Develop sensor system test cases and the corresponding test rig setups.

    Qualification:

      An engineering degree (Electrical Engineering, Aerospace engineering or similar) with at least 5 years of working experience in Avionics Systems Development. In depth knowledge about the physics and technical details of typical aircraft sensor systems (IMUs, ADS, GPS etc.) required. Good Experience with the development of Avionics systems architectures. Good Experience with safety aspects of Avionics systems. Familiarity with ARP4754 processes is desired. Familiarity with DO-254 and DO-178 processes is a bonus. High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomous. Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills required. Fluent English language skills are essential.
